Bussaco National Forest Floema

The Bussaco Forest Foundation invited Floema to design, produce and install equipment and communication supports integrated into this National Monument — a territory of remarkable biodiversity and historical heritage.

The intervention focused on creating systems of orientation, interpretation and permanence capable of dialoguing with the landscape while ensuring durability, safety and continuity over time.

Signage

The need for structures integrated into the natural context, combined with a contemporary, durable and sustainable approach, resulted in a solution combining FRAME signage systems and custom recycled plastic signage.

This product line incorporates Floema’s core material qualities, prioritising functionality, clarity and ease of installation and graphic replacement.

Frame totems

Totens Frame

No sistema de sinalética informativa, destacam-se os Totens Informativos Within the informative signage system, Frame Totems in XS2, S, M and XL formats stand out.

XS2, S and M models communicate information about biodiversity and built and natural heritage. XL totems, placed at the entrances of Bussaco National Forest, function as boundary and information points, displaying maps, regulations and access information.

The structures are produced in metallised steel with textured polyurethane coating. Information panels are integrated HPL+ plates, CNC/laser engraved and finished with two-component polyurethane paint.

SMART signage

To extend the visitor experience, QR codes were integrated into the totems, providing direct access to a digital platform with additional content.

This digital layer complements physical interpretation and introduces a continuous and intelligent communication system.

Frame directional signage

Directional Frame signs ensure route guidance throughout the park. As with the totems, all information is CNC/laser engraved and finished with two-component polyurethane paint.

Signs are mounted on metallised and painted steel posts, with fixing systems designed to simplify installation and graphic replacement.

Custom markers

The park offers two distinct routes — the Water Trail and the Via Sacra Trail — that cross the forest and allow visitors to explore both natural and historical heritage.

Custom markers were developed in brown recycled plastic, ensuring orientation while maintaining discreet integration into the landscape.

Floema Nature information signs

Communicating rules for the use and protection of ecosystems is essential for preserving the space and ensuring a quality experience for visitors.

Floema Nature information signs were produced and installed, made of HPL+ with recycled plastic posts — highly durable supports that are resistant to exposure and maintenance-free.

Furniture

The project included the installation of multiple picnic tables made from 100% recycled plastic, distributed across several areas of this natural heritage site. This material offers a solution that is not only more resistant and durable, but also more sustainable when compared to wood. In addition, recycled plastic requires no maintenance.

A project that enabled the integration of sustainable signage and equipment, distinguished not only by their durability, resistance and high aesthetic value, but also by their functionality and maintenance-free performance.
